Heart, Resist, Time

Frances has been using the resist technique in the 3rd PA project here.  I decided to combine all 3 projects in this piece.  The first using a heart shape, the second using the time theme and the third using the resist technique.

I painted an mdf heart shape in nougat fresco, stamped the image from Ink and Dog backgrounds #2 plate with versamark ink and covered in clear embossing powder.

Close up of the heated embossing powder.

I used PA crackle glaze on the bottom half of the heart and painted the top coat in French roast fresco.

I ironed off the embossing powder and then sanded the whole piece back.

I stamped the background scripts and words from my brand new Sara Naumann #3 plate in picket fence distress paint.  I took a couple of Maya Road clock faces and a distressed flower from the strip I cut for yesterdays piece.  Stamped the quote onto kraft card in timber brown stazon, cut out each word and framed them using a white pencil.

Earth, Wind & Fire

Over at PanPastelUK this week I was a bit stumped by their challenge theme of earth, wind and fire, but after reading the exp and looking at the fantastic DT projects it all became clear.

The background is melted wax crayon applied with a travel iron over glossy card stock.  I stamped the grass in black stazon and some clouds in the sky with white eco-friendly paint.  I've been looking for a good white ink pad, but haven't found one yet!!  The tree is a TH die cut painted and stamped.  And finally as it is a pan pastel challenge I had to use some somewhere so I die cut a circle, coloured it with orange (280.5) to make a sun.

So my earth is the grass and the tree, my wind is the sky and the clouds and my fire is my orange sun.

Butterfly Twinchies

This months twinchies theme on UKStampers is butterflies.  As most of you know, I only have the one butterfly stamp, so I've had to use it a few times here!!!  The first image is stamped onto a really thick vellum, I cut it out and just stuck it down the middle so the wings are free.  The 3 multi-coloured ones are adirondack inks spritzed with water to give a watercolour effect.  The middle bottom is from a paperartsy stamp set and the bottom right is stamped in timber brown stazon.

Text Background Atc's

The theme on this months UKStampers Atc swap is text backgrounds.  I used distressed inks on mine and ironed the creases out.  I stamped various other images onto white card, cut them out and 3d'd them onto the backgrounds.

Fly By Tag

Angela has set this weeks challenge over at the Stamp Man and she has chosen butterflies and or dragonflies.  I only have one of each stamp so I was slightly limited, but I think I did ok with it.

Over on Grungy Monday #11 this week we had to use t!m's faux batik technique which meant heat embossing and then removing with a hot iron.

Try it on Tuesdays are asking for a tag and some butterflies, so this also fits the bill quite nicely.

I used weathered wood distress stain and pine needle, faded jeans, peeled paint and old paper distress inks to create the background.  The 'fly' images were clear heat embossed.  The flower images were stamped in denim adirondack ink and the words in olive stazon.  The melted embossing powder was taken off with a very hot iron and brown paper.

Simon Says Torn and Tattered

This make is for Kate.  Kate is colourblind and thinks I use pink when in fact it's red or a combination of reds.  So Kate, this one is especially for you.  Yes, it is PINK!!!  I used pink sherbert, raspberry and tattered rose inks to stamp on the blue card and denim to stamp on the PINK card.  I tore the pieces of card out and edged with faded blue and spun sugar distress stains.  The background card started off white and that was coloured with weathered wood, spun sugar and antique linen distress stains.  It was stamped with faded jeans stain.  All images are from stampers anonymous plates.  I scrunched the PINK card, swooshed the inks over it and then ironed it flat ready to stamp on.

This week Simon Says Stamp are asking for distressed / torn edges.

Handmade Tissue Fabric

Lottie very kindly sent me a bundle of goodies recently and in it were a few different napkins, so I decided to make some tissue fabric from them. (If you click on the link, go back a page to 33 and you will get full instructions on how to.) Unfortunately the photo doesn't do it justice, its lovely IRL. (It's actually much better if you enlarge it, just tried it!!)  Haven't decided what I'm going to do with it yet, but there is a swap going on on of the yahoo groups I belong to, so I might join in with it.

New Stamp Sets

I finally found some time to have a play with the stamps sets that I won from Particraft.  I brayered ink from the mountain meadow big n juicy pad and stamped the main image in black stazon.  For the words and the music notes I painted neat bleach onto the stamp and stamped into the ink to remove the colour.  I also took a bit of colour away from the face and shoulders using a paintbrush.  I mounted a purple piece of card onto a black piece and stamped it with a flourish stamp using sand eco friendly paint.  I mounted the main image and added fibres.  It does look much better from a distance but I had to get in close to get the photo!!!!

I painted a piece of white card with bronze eco friendly paints and when touch dry painted pool tide over the top, gave it a quick blast with the heat gun and then swiped some of the top coat off to reveal the bronze.  You can get a really good shine on the metalic by buffing it up.  I stamped the image using timber brown stazon.  Tore and curled the edges.  I stamped the instrument onto a painted surface, cut it out and covered it with diamond glaze.  For the background I painted a piece of corrugated card in sand and stamped with mulch eco friendly paint and attached some string to hang it from.  I added a piece of twill ribbon and brads.

These stamps are from the other set.  Again I used the mountain meadow big n juicy but only used 3 of the colours.  Stamped the image and a quote.  Mounted it onto a piece of used dry babywipe.  Painted the corrugated in sand.  Mounted everything up and covered with a piece of angelina fibre which had been ironed over a rubber stamp.

Tissue Fabric

I made this background using a couple of sheets of vliesofix, calico, napkins, angelina fibres and watered down acrylic paint.  Once completely dry I machine sewed the grid using both straight and zig zag stitch.

I used all sorts of embellishments to decorate each of the squares.  These included stamped Angelina fibres, beads, sequins, alterations dies, skeleton leaves and painted tyvek.

Lutradur

I've been playing with a piece of Lutradur.  Firstly I covered it with different pieces of lace which I attached with a gel medium paste and left it over night to dry.  Then using my new eco friendly paints, I randomly painted all over it.  I used a dark purple paper for the backing of the image which is one of the printed canvas etched pieces I'd previously made. I added mesh, ribbon, fibres, gems and a button.

I've not been very good lately at making actual pieces, I've played around trying new things out, but not actually made anything with them.  So, this time I decided I should make the Lutradur sample into something, and this is what I came up with.

Layering Fabric, Ribbon and Fibres

I decided to have another try at creating a background using fibres, ribbons and strips of fabric.  This time I chose more bold colours.

I fused some Angelina fibres.

Laid them on top and fused them to the fabric and fibres.

I think this time I am going to leave the piece as a whole and as someone suggested with the purply one, create a wall hanging.

Fabric Charms

Remember my strip of layered fabrics which I wanted to turn into fabric charms, well my ruler arrived today so I was able to carry out the next steps and this is how they turned out.  I am quite pleased with them for my first effort.  They are for a swap so I hope they are ok!!!!

Layering

This piece was created using lots of layers. I started with a piece of black netting, fused a piece of webbing to it, added some black, red and white fabrics, added another sheet of fused webbing, added red, black and white mulberry paper, added another sheet of fused webbing, added red, black and white fibres, another sheet of fused webbing and finally a sheet of black netting. I am hoping to make 5 charms from this piece. I am just waiting for my ruler to arrive so I can cut them accurately!!! To see how to do it properly and hopefully what they will look like when finished, take a look at this link which I followed.
