Earth, Wind & Fire

Over at PanPastelUK this week I was a bit stumped by their challenge theme of earth, wind and fire, but after reading the exp and looking at the fantastic DT projects it all became clear.

The background is melted wax crayon applied with a travel iron over glossy card stock.  I stamped the grass in black stazon and some clouds in the sky with white eco-friendly paint.  I've been looking for a good white ink pad, but haven't found one yet!!  The tree is a TH die cut painted and stamped.  And finally as it is a pan pastel challenge I had to use some somewhere so I die cut a circle, coloured it with orange (280.5) to make a sun.

So my earth is the grass and the tree, my wind is the sky and the clouds and my fire is my orange sun.

Mini Shadow Box

After watching a stream from a group member who melted and dribbled wax crayons around a square mirror, I decided to use the same technique but in a shadow box.  I painted the chipboard backing with gesso and when dry, applied a couple of coats of pearl acrylic dabbers for that great pearly sheen.  I cut the ends off the crayons, peeled the paper back and stuck them down with a glue gun.  I took the heat gun to the nibs of the crayons and waited for the wax to melt.  I stamped the word 'memories', re-heated the wax and pushed it in.  I painted the shadow box with black acrylic dabbers and when dry added metallic rust and russet to the outer frame.  I've photo'd it without the glass to reduce the glare.

Gothic Arch Challenge - Little Boys

I received an email from the Gothic Arch site yesterday to let me know that this weeks theme was Little Boys, so I decided to play been as I haven't entered anyone elses challenges for absolutely ages. The only problem is, I have no idea how to link to their site, so if anyone is in the know, please would you let me know - ta.

The background is melted wax crayons, quite liked the bright look and texture of them. This time I printed the Lisa Altered Art image onto photo paper to make it glossy, added the gems and the words, the crown and the wand and that was it.

My Take on Encaustic Art

Whilst at Hilda's yesterday we were having a play with her encaustic art kit. Now I haven't got anything as fancy as that, but what I do have is a mini travel iron and a box of wax crayons. So this is what I made with my kit!!! Not bad for a first try I didn't think.

Canvas

This canvas has a bit of everything!!!! I tore the main image from a book, covered the canvas with mod podge, stuck the image on and gave it a coat of mod podge too. I used walnut distressed ink and juniper acrylic dabbers to create the background colours. I stamped the tickets and the word journey in black stazon. I tore a ticket in half and used that along with a black clock face and a grunge board letter j with gold wire wrapped around it to embellish. I cut and stuck various words relating to the image. I used a TH fragment to enhance the word luggage. I used my new craft tool to melt some green wax crayon and iron it onto the canvas. I covered the main image with a coat of bees wax. To finish I added 6 rusty nails along the top!!!!
