Spooky T-Light Holder

Another item picked up at the car boot. The top of a t-light holder, bottom was missing. I dry brushed it with black powertex.

I made some mummy moulds and painted them with black powertex.

I then decided I needed more mini cogs, bones and skulls.

I found a piece of MDF in the shape of a cog. I painted it with black powertex and made a bit of an arrangement using mini embellishments.

I couldn't decide if I wanted to put something inside and glue it down.  I inserted a few different pieces but you just couldn't see properly what it was meant to be.

I also couldn't decide if I wanted to glue the top down or leave it free.  I decided to leave it free and glued down the mini embellishments in front of it.

I glued some of the mini embellishments onto the frame of the holder.

I used silver treasure gold and brushed iron alchemy wax on them.

This is the top taken off the bottom and you can see that the mummies look like they are stranded in the air!!

And this is how the bottom set of embellishments stack up.

And here are the two pieces separated but in the same photo.

All put back together again with the mummy feet matching up with the cogs.

This is the view from the back.

I lifted the top off the base and added a battery candle. The flame flickers, so it was quite a nice effect.

Then I switched it for a multi-coloured battery t-light.

This is the reason why I didn't want to glue the top piece down.  It looks fabulous with the light coming through.

Zombie Skull

So I watched the Bone Effects FB live demonstrated by Ashley of Powertex Australia.

Followed the steps, added the bister, wiped back...

Added more ivory, wiped back added more ivory, more bister and wiped back.

Added some head gear.

Decided to add red eyes.

Didn't like the red, so painted over them in white but added more red around the eyes.

Added a light inside the skull.  This was taken in total darkness with no lights, just the camera and tea light.

And this one was taken with the main light slightly on.

Powertex Hardware Skull

Prepping the skull with hardware.

Martin made me the base, I painted it in black gesso and covered the spiders web placemat in black powertex and stuck it to the base.

Next I painted the whole of the skull in black powertex and let it dry.

Then once totally dry, I coloured it in interference violet, green, gold, blue, indigo and turquoise.

Unfortunately it's really hard to get a good photo of the colours.

This is it with the tealight lit.

And from the side.

Halloween Candlestick Holders

So here we are, all set up for another play.

I took a cardboard tube, the core of a kitchen roll, drew around the clay skull and roughly cut it out without squashing the tube.

I checked that the skull fitted in the hole, but I didn't want it loose.

Using masking tape I created a shelf about an inch down from the tops of the tube.

I started covering them with black Powertex.

I covered the battery tea lights with cling film.

I covered both of the tubes in fabric and other embellishments. Once the fabric was on the taller tube, I pushed the skull into the hole.

Added more clay pieces, lace and wool.

Added the clay wings.

I painted everything in black Powertex and then set them outside to dry.

I brought them back inside and left them overnight to totally dry.

Once dry, I took out the tea lights which were still covered in cling film. The fabric where they'd been sat was still a bit wet, so I left them out to let the fabric fully dry.

Once totally dry, I dry brushed them with silver and turned on the tea lights.

And these are the opposite sides, ie the back.

Had loads of fun making these and love how they've come out.

This step by step is over on the Powertex Blog today too. Why not pop over and check out what else is on there.
