I gave the wooden box a coat of gesso.
Randomly spread modelling paste around the outside edges and over the cross in the middle.
I mixed some texture sand paste with matte medium and coated the curved edges.
Once dry, I painted everything in paynes grey media paint.
The whole box was the painted with patina antiquing cream and then was rubbed back. A coat of matte medium was applied and allowed to dry. The outside flat edges were painted with white antiquing cream,
and rubbed back and again a coat of matte medium was applied. Once dried everything was painted with watered down quinacridone gold.
Close up of the outside of the box.
I painted the inside of each little box in cobalt teal hue media paint.
Added pieces of script tissue paper and adhered with matte medium.
Painted the inside boxes with quinacridone burnt orange and then transparent yellow iron oxide.
Love how it turned out, just need to find something to put in it now.
All products are from DecoArt Media range.

I can tell you're really having fun with those deco art paints, Sam. Can't wait to see what goes inside. My mojo is still on holiday (boo).

Love what you've done with the tray Sam! You've used some of my favourite colours (all actually!). The DecoArt stuff is good isn't it?
In answer to your question about the Chalky paint, yes, it is Everlasting. Andy told me how well it stamps and he was right (would be I suppose!). It's the only colour I have but it does make me want a few more! Enjoy the last of the weekend. Juliaxx
That looks great, I love the texture.
Looks gorgeous Sam...very inspired!

Good to hear from you Sam, I haven't been blogging much for the last few months but must say that I feel better this last couple of weeks than I've felt for months. Love your texture experiments, excellent results. Thanks for your comment too.

Fabulous colours and textures on your altered box, I love it.
xxx Hazel.
I love how you aged this Sam, it looks as if it ought to have little curiosities in it: tiny shells, starfish, miniature bottles - that sort of thing. xx
Very antiqued look !
What a fabulous transformation Sam, loving all the texture you've created, so touchable! Wonderful. Ruth x
What a great finish Sam! Can't wait to see what you put inside it!

Beautiful colours Sam, enjoyed seeing Andy Skinner use these together and sharing more of his wonderful tips on You Tube. Hope we get to see what you fill your box with! :-) xxx
