Timebound

I used a few die cuts on this piece. The background is corrugate cardboard sprayed with carbon black media mister. The TH framework die is coloured in black modelling paste, the background square of chipboard was painted with a mix of white crackle paint and textured sand paste, one dry, painted in paynes grey. Skull, washers and cog painted to look like rust. The clock die and banner were tinted with onyxite treasure gold directly onto the chipboard.

Clear crackle paste was applied to the clay heart and then coated in black anqituing cream and wiped back, love how it highlighted the fab cracks.

All media products used from the DecoArt range. Waiting for some metallic lustres to arrive, can't wait to compare them to the treasure gold products.

I took a square of corrugated and pulled most of the top layer off, then gave it a spritz with the carbon black media mister. I added the skull and wings die cuts which I'd coloured with silver media paint.

Painted some little nails to look rusty and added black eyes to the skull.

Rusted the charm, washers and clock hands using texture sand paste and quinacridone gold.

Think I might go back in and outline the idea-ology word with a black smudgy pencil.

All products are from the Deocart media range.

Skully

Lin and Kirsten kindly sent me a plastic skull, both different sizes. Using mold-n-pour I made moulds from them.

So after I'd revived my clay, I made some copies and also used a cookie cutter to cut out the hearts.

The background was created on a piece of chipboard by firstly painting it in white gesso, followed by a layer of white crackle paint, once dry the layers were built up using black paint, a layer of ultra matte medium and then another layer of black paint and finally dry brushed with white gesso. 

The heart was painted with gesso, cracked with crackle glaze and black antiquing cream applied. The washers were rusted with quinacridone gold.

I added a strip of metal which I got at last years Version Scrap show, coloured the skulls and added gems for the eyes.

Playing with DecoArt Media Crackle Products

I wanted to have a play with the new to me range of crackle products made by DecoArt for the media range.  I started off with the clear crackle paste. The mdf shape was base coated in white gesso and then sprayed with the yellow shimmer media mister. Once dry a thickish coat of the clear crackle paste was applied and left to dry over night.

I did exactly the same with this one but used the orange mister spray this time.

This is a chipboard die cut shape, again gesso'd and painted in phthalo green yellow media paint.  This time I just dabbled the crackle paste in certain areas.

I then rubbed carbon black media paint over the pieces.

And then rubbed most of it off, so it just stayed in the cracks.

Did the same with this one except used titan buff media paint.

Close up, you can see the cream colour in the cracks.

Another chipboard die cut, gesso'd and painted with primary magenta media paint, then a thin coat of the crackle glaze applied.

Same again this one was painted with primary cyan and the crackle applied thinly over the top.

This one I gesso'd and crackled straight over the top.

I added carbon black antiquing cream over this one, rubbed it back and sealed with a coat of ultra matte varnish.

I added white antiquing cream to the magenta crackled heart shape and wipe back.

Then I added quinacridone gold to the white heart.

I stamped the script over the magenta heart with black versa fine ink and run it round the edges.

And I did the same with the blue coloured piece of chipboard.

Next I tried the white crackle paste, I coated the mdf tag with matte medium and applied a thick coat. Left over night to dry, then watered down green gold media paint and painted over half.

I did exactly the same with the white crackle paint and to be honest, don't really know what the difference is, so will keep playing with these 2 products.

Next I painted wooden hearts in carbon black and napthol red. I put a thin layer of the white crackle paint over the red one.

And a thin layer of the white crackle paste over the black one. Again I could see any difference in the products. 

Next I experimented with stencils.

This is the white crackle paste. Again, I can't tell any really difference in the two products.

Hopefully you'll see these samples used in some projects in the near future.

Layered Backgrounds

To create this background I used the above DecoArts products. There is also an Andy Skinner video which shows you the first layers. 

This is the outcome of using the easy float over the paints. 

And this is another one I did using exactly the same colours.

I also wanted to find out what the liquid glass did and how it worked.

Stamped the scruffy bird in black versa mark, masked off and then stamped the water drops in black stazon. Used some of the liquid glass over the splodges. It comes out white, but dries clear.

This is it a couple of hours later. It basically works the same as Ranger's Glossy Accents.

Don't know if you can see it but it's on the white dots to the right.

And finally I added white posca pen to the stamped water spots, used a paper distresser around the sides and used carbon black media paint to edge to finish the piece.

Media Paints & Deli Paper

I decided to play with a few of my new Decoart media paints which are just lush, the colours are so vibrant and a little really does go a long way.

I randomly added drops of the green and the red onto a piece of deli paper and using a credit card, scraped the paint across to create the above.

For this one I used Magenta (pink - yikes) and orange and I actually think they work lovely together. As you can see, these colours seemed to spread better or I might of put a bit more on.

And for this one I used the purple which is absolutely gorgeous and the silver.

And this one, hansa yellow and blue but as we know blue and yellow make green so where they've mixed I've got green.

And finally teal and green gold.

I cut them down into squares and made envelopes and matching note cards using my envelope punch board.

So this is the whole set with the note card tucked in.

And this is the front, love how the stripes have come out.
