Zombie Skull

So I watched the Bone Effects FB live demonstrated by Ashley of Powertex Australia.

Followed the steps, added the bister, wiped back...

Added more ivory, wiped back added more ivory, more bister and wiped back.

Added some head gear.

Decided to add red eyes.

Didn't like the red, so painted over them in white but added more red around the eyes.

Added a light inside the skull.  This was taken in total darkness with no lights, just the camera and tea light.

And this one was taken with the main light slightly on.

Little Leather Eye Books

I made some little spooky / scary eye books with a leather cover.

They are rubbed with black stazon to create a worn look and coated with gloss varnish which really brings out all the textures.

These are for sale in my Etsy shop.

Ghoul House

After watching the 5 inspiring Powertex shows on Hochanda earlier in the week, Tracey inspired me to have a play with a fairy house, but in true fashion, I changed it from a fairy to a scary house!!

I used t-shirt fabric to cover the body of the coffee jar and added pieces of dishcloth, cotton scrim, lace and cotton strands

The skulls and faces are made from air dry clay and it takes the powertex quite well. I also wanted to incorporate an eye!

This is the lid or the roof. I wanted to create space to add in another eye!

The jar with the roof on.

As the lid is loose, I can position it where I want.

View from the other side.

Painted the eyes in once I'd taken them out of the cling film and popped them back in again.

From another angle with the roof on.

Dry brushed with yellow ochre pigment mixed with Decoart satin varnish.

From another angle, love how the pigment brings it to life.

Moved the lid round so that both eyes are facing forwards!

Close up of the bottom eye painted with DecoArt media paints.

Close up of the dry brushing to hi-light all the different elements.

Mini Leather Eye Books

I came across this video showing how to create these fab books which I totally fell in love with, so I just had to make some.

I glazed the eye over on this one using DA liquid glass.

Eyes were painted with DA multi surface satin for the colour and media acrylic for the carbon black and titanium white whilst the blue was still wet. Also added a metal corner.

I gave them all a coat of DA media satin varnish once they were finished. This one was my fave so have kept it for myself.

And these are the backs. I gave two of them closures, one which is stuck down and the other you can take the band off so the book opens and the other three I left open.

Products used were by DecoArt.
