10 Green Bottles!!

 

This is the empty glass bottle I used.

I covered it in kitchen roll with transparent powertex, for no other reason than that is what I had out on the table. I also added some string for added texture.

Then I decided to paint it green.

I dry brushed with gold to bring the textures out.

I added some metal embellishments.

I added a dragonfly but I wasn't happy with the colour of the embellishments as instead of standing out, they blended in.

So to make it brighter, I painted gold on the metal pieces and metallic purple on the dragonfly wings.

Decorated Vodka Bottles

Raspberry Vodka Bottles - great shape

Was quite please how this came out. I painted with powertex, then painted a couple of gold layers, then a coat of watered down pva gule, then a coat of black powertex and I use the hairdryer to crackle it.

Got some quite nice cracks showing the gold through.

Next I had a play around with some resin pieces, deciding where I wanted to place them.

Coloured the embellishments with shades of gold metallic paint and a blue one to make the key feature pop.

I decided to use corrugated, beads and some lace on this bottle. 

I filled the gaps in with kitchen roll for added texture.

I added the lace and gave everything a coat of black powertex.

Once it was dry, I dry brushed with silver treasure gold.

Mounted Mini Torso

 

I created this mini torso from a mould using fast cast resin. 

I carefully placed some paper decoration over parts of the body with black powertex.  Once dry I dry brushed with silver.  Then using kitchen roll I mounted it on a piece of wood.

And finally I dry brushed the base in silver.

Combi Camping - On the Road - Brighton Beach Huts

 

All aboard, off we go on the start of our virtual trip around WA.  We are heading to Brighton Beach to check out those beach huts.

So I cut the shapes with the TH tiny houses die.  I cut them out of corrugated to get the ridges.  Then gave them a coat of white powertex.

Used acrylic paints in various bright colours to decorate them.

Whilst they were drying off I created some texture with kitchen roll on a plank of wood.  This time I used the yellow powertex.

Once dry I added some small and then medium sand balls.

And once everything was dry I used pigments and varnish to colour it and bring out the textures.

I mounted the houses on the sand strip.

And added a house number.

I made a paste of ivory powertex and kitchen roll.  I spread it on an mdf substrate and created other shapes.

Once dry I painted it with watercolour paints. I used black gesso to outline the edges.

I dotted gilding paste randomly onto the piece.  I waited for about an hour for it to dry.

Once it was semi dry I used metallic foil where I had applied the paste.

Was just having a bit of a play to see if the foiling worked and how the paste would come out.

Rusty Tag

This time last week I was on a 3 day workshop and one of the things we were asked to do was to take anything rusty we could find. Although I had a fabulous time, it wasn't what I expected and so I brought the bits back and a few more that Judith kindly let me use on the day, to do something like what I thought we'd be doing, but didn't!

I look a large mdf tag and laid bits and bobs out how I roughly wanted to place them.

To create some texture on the tag I used kitchen roll. Paint the mdf and then just lay a small piece of kitchen roll on and dab it with the end of the paintbrush until it's all covered. Then take another small piece and continue until you've covered the tag. You could also use fabric too, or a mix of both.

Whilst it was still tacky I started to place the pieces of rusty metal. 

Powertex also acts as a glue, so it's very easy to stick most things down.

Then I added all the washers, screws, nails and the clay skull.

I made sure everything had a good coat of the black Powertex. I also decided to add strands of Power Cotton to create even more texture and set it aside to dry.

This is how it looks this morning after spending a night in the airing cupboard.

So onto the dry brushing. I used white to start with.

I got a bit brave and tried to record it. I have uploaded it, but please bear in mind, it's the first one I've done, and I had the camera in my left hand and was trying to dry brush one handed!!!

So this is what I ended up with after adding the white pigment.

Just in case the first one didn't work, I tried it again with another colour.

So this is where I kind of got to after I'd stopped videoing. If you didn't manage or want to watch it, I did another layer of dry brushing, but this time used the red pigment.

And to brighten it up a little, I used the bronze and rich gold pigments. You'll be pleased to know I didn't video this one!!

Close up - you can really see the single strands of Power Cotton now.

And here I Powertexed the tacks using the heads onto the forehead of the skull.
