I did this one slightly different, I used sellotape instead of cellophane. It has stuck and covered much better than the cellophane did. Applied more PVA glue on the final coat too and left over night to dry before applying the inks

That's very effective.
Have you tried masking tape too, it's more absorband so not sure how it would perform but worth a go it you've got any round the house.
