3d Flex & Powerwax

I created a mix of 3d flex and powertex and created a heavy paste, spread it across the mdf shape and let it dry.

Once dry I used pigments and powerwax to colour the paste. Once I was happy I covered the whole piece in a layer of powerwax, let it dry and then gave it a buff with a clean cloth.

I then used my gilding paste to create a pattern.  Once I'd left it to dry for about an hour I then used gold foil to cover the paste and finally I went around the edge in gold pen.

Flower Tag

I covered a large mdf tag with a mix of cotton scrim and black powertex, I then powertexed a piece of fabric mesh over the top of it.  Cut a couple of polystyrene balls in half and added some rusty hardware.

Then I used green pigments and coloured the background. I used violet and red interference pigments on the balls.

I added gilding paste to the hardware and left it to dry for about an hour.

I placed purple metallic foil over the gilding paste and then added rusty nails to the balls.

Added a piece of ribbon and went outside and hung it from a tree to take some photos.

It's quite 3 dimensional.

I love the colours.

And finally a close up.

Experiment of colour and textures

I made a paste of ivory powertex and kitchen roll.  I spread it on an mdf substrate and created other shapes.

Once dry I painted it with watercolour paints. I used black gesso to outline the edges.

I dotted gilding paste randomly onto the piece.  I waited for about an hour for it to dry.

Once it was semi dry I used metallic foil where I had applied the paste.

Close up of some of the metallic foil.

Was just having a bit of a play to see if the foiling worked and how the paste would come out.

Vintage Tags

I made some more tags today but with a vintage theme.

Some close ups of the tags.

Used some mini clusters which I'd previously made.

On the Road - Combi Camper Challenge

So over on the Powertex Australia Creative Hub FB page Ashley has started a challenge called 'On the Road - Combi Camper' and the idea is that we create a camper van to virtually travel around different points of Australia and create other challenge pieces when we get there. You can get a kit, but I wanted to challenge myself and see if I could make something like.  I used cardboard, bubble wrap and masking tape to get the basic shape.

I gave it all a coat of black powertex and once dried I used easy structure paste through a stencil on the roof.

I mixed up a batch of stoneart clay and made some flowers and a word.

I decorated the front with wooden pieces so they would stand out.

And then one side, wheels are done in cardboard.

And then more or less the same thing on the other side.  I wasn't precious about getting them exact, just similar will do for me.

I added more stencilling with the easy structure and then dry brushed everything in white pigment.

Next I got more or less everything out to get some colour on there.

As you can see, I went for bright bold colours.

And on the front I used quite a few chipboard offcuts and blended the colours in.

I'd decorated a few other bits and bobs I found in my stash.

Made sort of a spare wheel to put on the back panel and some lights and bumper.

I made a surfboard for the roof, let's face it, you can't have a camper van without a surfie now can you.

And this is what I ended up with.

And from the other side.

And this is the back.  I added some fibres to the ring and you will see why shortly.

That's because I've added a compartment inside and needed something to be able to pull it out easily.

And this is the front.

View from the top with the surfie.

A few close ups.

A bit of stamping.

Stone Art flowers on the roof.

And on the wheels.

And finally I made some tags including some postcards and a couple of tickets in case we need to get in anywhere.

This is my first tag.  As we are virtually travelling around Australia, my thinking is that when we make a stop I'm going to date a tag, write the place name and then after a bit or research, write a bit about it on the tag, or send a postcard and fill in a ticket.

Let the adventure begin xxx

Festive Stone Art Sculpture

Again this started life as a polystyrene circle, then I cut a piece cut out.

I covered the piece in stone art and ivory powertex and then threw everything at it until I was happy with the outcome.

Close up of the stone art texture and the colouring.

I added yellow, brown and blue bister, black powertex and then transparent.

And I incorporated some of the elements left from our gluhwein together with some elements from a previous woods forage which I coated in transparent powertex so I could keep their natural look.

Rustic

Another of my circles with a hole and piece cut out the middle.

I just kept going with it until I got the look that I wanted.

Close up of the rust powder, small balls and transparent powertex mix.

Then I went outside and took some photos when the sun popped out.

A close up of the colours and rust.

I love how this bit at the top has rusted.

I added rusty wire and nails.

Love how this bit rusted too with the dark and light.

More rust on the cardboard.
